Definition and characteristics of micro-module and modular data center

A smart module is an independent operating unit consisting of a cooling module, a power supply and distribution module, and a network, cabling, and monitoring unit. All components of the module can be prefabricated in the factory, and can be flexibly disassembled and quickly assembled.

A modular data center is a rapidly deployable data center model built in accordance with the modular design concept. The data center consists of N identical micro-modules.

Each micro-module contains its own power distribution system, air conditioning system, fire protection system and monitoring system, etc. It can be simply considered that the micro-module is a micro data center. All components of the micromodule are prefabricated and tested in the factory, and can be put into use in the data center in as little as two weeks.

Therefore, the micro-module and the whole cabinet solve the problem of the traditional data center construction cycle is long and complicated, and can be quickly and flexibly deployed, which makes it easier to arrange the micro-module construction in stages and protect the investment. When the data center is decommissioned, these micromodules can also be easily disassembled and transported to other data centers.

The number of power modules and inter-row air conditioners in the smart module can be flexibly configured according to the power of the IT cabinet to meet the requirements of different power densities. Currently, the maximum cabinet power supported by the smart module can be up to 15KW, and the PUE of the entire data center can be maintained between 1.2 and 1.4.
