Analysis of 2018 Domestic IDC Hosting Service Market Structure and Asset Positioning & Tracking

According to statistics from the China Data Center Alliance, the structure of the domestic IDC (Internet Data Center) hosting service market in 2018 was primarily driven by cloud computing enterprises, internet companies, financial institutions, and government agencies.

Specifically, major cloud computing vendors (including Alibaba, Tencent, Amazon, etc.) accounted for a total share of 37%. Internet companies (excluding the major cloud providers) accounted for 25%, financial institutions for 12%, and government agencies for 19%. The shares for other categories and the manufacturing industry were smaller, at only 5% and 2% respectively.

The Challenge of Remote Asset ManagementIDC hosting services bring with them the need for remote asset management. A major issue facing hosted clients is how to ensur

e the management of their independent servers within a hosted IDC. Since the equipment is not located in their own facility, this implies uncertainty regarding security, reliability, and availability.

The demand from hosted clients is to be able to digitally locate and track their hosted servers through a visualized IT asset management platform, ensuring secure, real-time control over their assets.

The Technological BottleneckThis seemingly simple demand actually presents a huge challenge in terms of server digitization. Using economical and secure IoT RFID technology to achieve server "digital representation" is difficult regarding accuracy.

This is because the spacing between each Rack Unit (U-position) is too small, and RFID is a near-field communication technology. It causes interference and misreads with surrounding sensors, leading to errors in server asset positioning. This error rate reaches approximately 85%, meaning it is difficult to achieve precise server asset positioning relying on traditional RFID technology.

The Digitalor SolutionDigitalor (數碼人) has utilized a disruptive innovation based on the principles of magnetic attachment and electromagnetic induction to read data from each U-position via polling. This ensures a one-to-one correspondence between each U-position tag and U-position module, achieving 100% data accuracy. The successful commercialization of this technology brings a secure and reliable solution for remote server asset control in the IDC hosting market.

Currently, this technical solution has been implemented at organizations such as China Mobile, China Telecom, Alibaba Cloud, Tencent Cloud, UCloud, Bank of China, China Merchants Securities, and the Beijing Municipal Government, covering cloud vendors, internet companies, financial enterprises, and government agencies. In the future, the market is set to gradually expand and become widespread, holding immense potential.
